Conflict of Interest & Campaign Filings

Conflict of Interest filings

The Political Reform Act was adopted as a statewide initiative (Proposition 9) by an overwhelming vote of the people in 1974. The Act requires people  holding specified public offices to file disclosures of investments, real property interests, and income within specified periods of assuming or leaving office, and annually while holding office. Specified local elected officers file their statements of economic interests with the city clerk or county clerk, who keeps a copy of each statement for the public to view.

Campaign Filings & Contribution Limits

Candidates running for a state office and committees that make contributions to state candidates are limited in the amount of contributions they may accept from a single source. Beginning January 1, 2021, a state campaign contribution limit will by default apply to city and county candidates when the city or county has not enacted laws addressing contribution limits on such candidates. The contribution limits are different depending on the office, the committee and the contributor. Inyo County has not adopted regulations, so the state limits currently apply to candidates running for county office.
